Off The Wall Transitions

Murphy

In May 2002 Paula McGregor was given a horse that was due to be put down.
Murphy had endured more than 1 year of extreme pain and had been diagnosed with ‘Navicular.’
His previous owner had spent a year and $1000’s of dollars trying to cure Murphy.
His lameness had become so bad that the owner had given this young 6 year old dressage horse to a friend as a paddock mate.

Unwilling to bear weight on his near fore

Same day after removal of shoes and first trim, putting weight on near fore after.

Paula and Murphy
3 weeks after first trim, now standing square

When Paula met Murphy he was about to be put down as his lameness had worsened.
Murphy’s owner wanted to give him one last chance and decided to allow Paula to take Murphy for rehabilitation.
Murphy stayed at my place for the first 14 weeks of his recovery.
On arrival Paula, also a Natural Hoof Care Provider, removed his shoes and gave him his first Natural Trim.
He instantly went from pointing his sore foot when he had shoes on to actually bearing weight on it when he was de-shod and trimmed.
He was still very lame when he moved but this improved gradually each day.
4 days after his first trim he was able to hold up each foot in turn without almost falling over.
2 weeks later there was a marked improvement in both his walk and trot.
On the 1st of August Paula was able to take him for a short road ride.
Murphy has slowly continued to regain soundness and his ‘attitude’ has changed from borderline dangerous to a happy, fun horse proving
that pain levels had changed his personality.
He now has a new home were he continues to get regular hoof care that is still helping to remodel his damaged hooves and is now
sound enough to manage a 5 km road ride.
A fantastic transformation for a horse that could not even carry his own weight on soft ground
