I have been leasing horses from Whitford RDA for two and a half years. First Hamlet a 23yr old 14.2 pony, as far as I know Hamlet has probably been wearing shoes all of his life. When we first took his shoes off, he was sort of walking around lifting his feet up to high for a few hours becouse he was'nt used to his feet being so light . (It was very funny and cute). He was a little tender footed for 2 or three months but only on the gravely paths. Now he has no problems at all, and the young girl who leases him now, trots him along the gravel path with no problems. About six months ago I took on Danny, who is a 15 hand ex hunter and about 20yrs. Danny came with no shoes on at all and his feet were a chipped and uneven mess, as he had just been in a paddock and unridden for quite a long time. But of course Jenny sorted him out , and he is another success story.I would recommend Jenny to anybody wanting to try Barefoot Trimming, she is very knowledgable, with the horses best interests at heart. She wont steer you wrong and is an excellent Barefoot Trimmer. I would also like to mention the freedom I have found with Barefoot. It is so nice not to have the worry of hooves growing over shoes, shoes half hanging off, and the look of relief on little Hamlets face when he does'nt get his hoof walloped with a hammer is priceless. I never thought I would feel like this, at first I was just going to give it a try, thinking it would never really be able to replace shoes. Now I cant imagine putting shoes back on , I would feel cruel. Hamlet and Danny are both healthy happy horses thanks to Barefoot trimming ,and I ride on the road, grass, gravel, anywhere.(Allthow I havent done any endurance riding , Im sure we ciould work at that if need be!). Anyway, Jenny is the person to guide you down the right track.
Yours Sincerly, Karen Dugdale.
