J.B.King is a registered purebred Quarter horse. He is rising 9 and has competed In Hand, ridden Western Pleasure, Horsemanship and Showmanship classes. J.B was first shod as a 2year old. By the time he was 5 he was showing signs of discomfort throughout his body also his temperament had changed. Continual neck, back, sacroiliac and hindquarter problems finally lead his owner to barefoot. His shoes were removed when he was 6 and his barefoot journey began. J.B is lucky to have one of the most dedicated owners in the horse world. His transition from contracted, flat soled, medio-laterally imbalanced distorted hooves has been slow and painstaking for both the horse and his owner, Sharon King. Sharon religiously hand led him in the early stages of his healing when his feet where barely capable of carrying his own bodyweight let alone that of a rider. She has learnt how to trim his feet so that he can have every opportunity to remodel healthy hoof capsules. Sharon is a Western rider with a great love of showing but has put the show circuit aside while her horse regains his health and athleticism. J.B’s feet have finally turned their last huge corner and have decontracted beautifully, he now has lovely healthy frogs, robust concave soles and naturally is leaping out of his skin, striding out when ridden, trotting up the roads without the need for his protective boots, walking over rocks and generally letting Sharon know he is a -action man- wanting to get on with the action! Sharon and J.B. King will finally get back to the show ring when the show season starts up later in the year. It is now August 2004, J.B had his shoes removed 2 and a half years ago. Good luck Sharon, you both truly deserve every ribbon you win.
