When Paula McGregor was first asked to trim Ben I happened to be with her. His owner could not be present but we found Ben and another horse in a large paddock/field. Ben was hardly able to move and as a consequence was very easy to catch. He had switched off to his pain in order to endure the discomfort he was so obviously enduring. He didn't respond to anything and seemed almost lifeless. Because of this I decided to help him with some healing work as Paula trimmed the cause of his pain, his chipped and torn hooves. He had with drawn so deeply within himself that even the Kinetic work I was doing appeared to initiate no response. As we were both working with Ben I was conscious of his nervous paddock mate that we could not get near when we arrived, slowly creeping closer and closer until his chin was on my shoulder. As we continued to work with the unresponsive Ben, his paddock mate soon began yawning and yawning, looking as if he was going to dislocate his jaw in the process. He gave me the impression that he was responding to the healing process for Ben because Ben just couldn’t. As Ben’s distorted hooves improved so did his interest in life and within a month he was galloping around the paddock again with his companion, full of life and expression. Part way through his rehabilitation he was given away to a new owner so there are no follow up photos of his feet. Before he was re-homed all the cracks had grown out and he had strong healthy hooves again.
